Safety in the design and manufacture of toys is the BTHA's highest priority and all members of the BTHA are required to adhere to the Code of Practice and ensure that all products conform to EN 71 and, where appropriate, EN 62115 (electrical toys).
It is a requirement of membership that members take prompt and effective action should any of their products breach current safety codes or develop a fault which renders them unsafe. In such cases, and when an enforcement authority makes any allegation of contravention of the toy safety regulations, they are obliged to advise the Association. The reputation of the BTHA and its members depends on our safety record and the remit of the BTHA, therefore, extends beyond simple adherence to codes and regulations and embraces a wide variety of safety related issues.
The toy safety committee exists to co-ordinate these toy safety activities and to provide BTHA representation on all relevant national and international committees, working parties and conferences.
The BTHA is committed to ensuring its members maintain a high level of safety and technical knowledge with support from the association's advisory service.
If you are a member looking for safety advice for one of your products, contact Tracey Butcher at the BTHA on 020 7701 7271. Your membership allows you to contact our safety advisory service for free advice.
The BTHA also runs a series of Lion Mark seminars throughout the year to ensure your knowledge is maintained with the most up-to-date and practical safety knowledge possible. Most sessions are voluntary but highly recommended as they cover a range of topics to suit varying product ranges.
Part of the Lion Mark education programme is compulsory, and your continued membership is dependent on your attendance. Details on all sessions can be obtained from the BTHA and details will be sent to all members.
