A decision has been taken by CTSI to put an indefinite hold on running the Playsafe competition. This decision has been taken after consultation with key stakeholders including us at the British Toy and Hobby Association.
Leon Livermore, CEO Chartered Trading Standards Institute, commented, “The competition itself has been amazingly successful over the years and attracted a high number of excellent entries. The young people that I have met through the competition have certainly shown what the younger generation can achieve and all the winners have impressed, not only with their entries, but the way that they have conducted themselves. However, over the past few years we have seen a dramatic fall in the number of entries and we are no longer confident we can call this competition national when so few authorities/schools support it. This lack of support is understandable given the pressures facing both.”
Roland Earl, Director General of the BTHA, “We have enjoyed supporting the incredibly valuable work of Trading Standards via a competition that teaches children about product safety. It is always sad to see a competition close but we very much look forward to continuing to support CTSI in their support of trading standards officers in the months and years to come”.
Both CTSI and the BTHA would like to thank all those that have supported the competition and taken the time to enter.
