BTHA Members are committed to promoting the value that play has in children’s development and in their enjoyment of life. The child’s right to play is ratified in Article 31 of the UN Convention;

 “every child has the right to rest and leisure, to engage in play and recreational activities to the age of the child and to participate freely in cultural life and the arts.”

In 2016 the Make Time 2 Play campaign enters its seventh year and its popularity with busy parents continues to grow. Make Time 2 Play aims to encourage and to help parents to find fun and innovative ways to allow their children time to play and aims to educate parents on the unrivalled developmental benefits of play.

Make Time 2 Play is supported by members and the wider industry. Since it’s inception the campaign has been supported with advertisements on children’s TV channels and before children’s films in cinemas (with airtime generously donated by media partners). The Make Time 2 Play message is also communicated through a website, Facebook page where parents can share ideas and ask for advice, and a twitter feed. The campaign won the Social Media award at the Trade Association Forum’s 2016 Best Practice Awards.TAF 2016 Best Practice Awards Logos WINNER Social Media

In addition to the resources above there is a smart phone app to help parents to come up with easy play ideas. The FREE app has proved to be hugely popular and contains hundreds of free play ideas, whatever the weather, for all ages, settings and numbers of participants.

The BTHA is committed to continuing the campaign and to making it as easy as possible for children all over the UK to have time to play.
