Toy Safety Information - A guide
Introduction - How to use this guide.
This guide has been produced primarily for members of the British Association of Toy Retailers (TRA) and the British Toy & Hobby Association (BTHA).
Since its first edition, however, the guide has proved to be very useful for others with a particular interest in toy safety including Trading Standards Officers and consumer protection groups. Additional notes have, therefore, been included in this revised edition to aid other readers.
The Approved Lion Mark Retailer Scheme requires all TRA members to provide both management and staff with some general appreciation of toy safety matters. Whilst they are not expected to be fully conversant with such a complex subject, staff should be able to recognise the different safety symbols and know where they can find the answer to most of the questions they are ever going to be asked about toy safety.
If you are ever asked a question on toy safety that you cannot answer or if you are unsure about any aspect of toy safety, please call or fax us for advice and information. Do not hesitate, however trivial you may consider the request. It could be a great deal more important than you imagined. The phone and fax numbers are in the contact details section of this guide for quick reference.
Finally, the efforts that TRA and BTHA members are making in complying with the legal obligations and in demonstrating due diligence in this field, are helping to improve not only the overall safety standards within the industry but also the professional image of the industry and individual companies within it.
